LONDON (AFP) – Waikato hooker Aled de Malmanche’s holiday in Bali has had to be cut short after he was called-up by New Zealand as cover for the injured Corey Flynn ahead of this weekend’s international against England.
Flynn sustained a hamstring strain in training on Monday as the All Blacks, fresh from their win over Italy, began preparations for this Saturday’s match against England at Twickenham.
“We are hopeful Corey will recover but, as we have time on our side, we have called in Aled,” said New Zealand coach Graham Henry. “We will wait and see how Corey goes this week before making a final decision.”
The 25-year-old Malmanche is due to arrive in London on Wednesday – when Henry is due to name his side to play England.
Meanwhile an X-ray on Ben Smith has confirmed the wing has not fractured his thumb.
